Open Maker Session Registration

The Makery @ Boxyard RTP is a maker space geared toward upper elementary aged children, tweens, teens, and adults.

Two Open Maker Sessions are available each day, Tuesday-Saturday, 11am-2pm & 3pm-7pm

Join us any time within the session block for one of our two maker experiences:

Maker’s Choice

Come and bring your own materials to work on a project in our well-equipped maker space or create freely using the variety of materials, tools, and equipment we have to offer, including recycled materials, art supplies, tools, and making machines. You will also have access to our very experienced and talented Makery staff to ask questions or provide support if you want to try your hand at something new! 

Maker’s Project 

Purchase a prepared maker kit and work on the project in our maker space with access to additional materials or assistance from our trained Makery staff. You can expect to complete the project in one session and be able to take it home with you! Kits are subject to availability, may change weekly, and price dependent.

Pre-registration is required for Open Maker Sessions for each adult and child as space is limited.

(walk-ins will be accommodated as space allows) 

Every individual requires a ticket; each "Maker's Project" ticket includes one kit. Children under the age of 12 months are free and do not need to register. 

Museums for All National Access Program: If you have an EBT/SNAP card, you qualify for $3.00 Maker's Choice tickets! Enter discount code: MAKERY4ALL at checkout. (Please bring your EBT card for verification upon checking in.) Discount rates are not yet available for featured Maker's Project.

KIDZU MEMBERS:

We are grateful for the continued support of members of Kidzu Children's Museum, which closed in August 2024 due to irreparable damage from the flooding of Kidzu's long-standing location at University Place in Chapel Hill. 

We are so excited to open The Makery @ Boxyard RTP, which is an even more creative and innovative maker space than what we previously featured at our University Place location. We are looking forward to continuing to serve our longtime members and visitors while widening our scope and reach to serve even more children and families in North Carolina.  

In gratitude to our member community, all active annual Kidzu memberships from the original museum will be honored for admission to the Maker's Choice experience at Boxyard until the natural expiration of the membership. 

This benefit is only available to remaining holders of active Kidzu Children's Museum Annual Memberships, not members of the Nest. Memberships for The Makery @ Boxyard RTP are not currently available.

Kidzu Members, please make sure you're signed into your member account before registering to receive your automatic member discount!

Please Note:

• The Makery is currently a cashless operation so all payments must be made using a digital payment method.
• Pre-registered ticket holders are guaranteed immediate access upon arrival.
• Registration remains open online for one hour after the beginning of the session; after that time, tickets can be purchased at the door as space allows. Please call 919-933-1455 to check availability.
• All children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
• Teens ages 14-17 are welcome to attend an Open Maker Session independently without being accompanied by an adult. However, please note that The Makery is not a childcare facility and we do not assume additional responsibility for those individuals outside of our normal healthy and safety practices.
