Nest Sessions

Nest Session Registration

A learning environment for young children (0-5 years) and their caregivers.

2-Hour Open Play Nest Sessions:

Tuesday-Saturday: 8:30-10:30am and 11am-1pm

Come any time within the 2-hour window and enjoy child-directed play, collaborative art projects, STEM activities, and story time with your child!

Pre-registration is required for Nest Sessions (walk-ins will be accommodated as space allows.) 

Tickets are $6 per person for adults and children over 3 months.

Infants under 3 months are free and do not need to be registered. 

All members can register for free!

New Location!

Location: 1712 Willow Dr. Chapel Hill, NC 27514 next to the Binkley Preschool building

Use the Willow Drive entrance with a sign for "Binkley Church" and turn right to the side parking lot. Signs at the sidewalk will direct you to our front lobby and a member of the Nest team will check you in. 

Please note that while The Nest is in the same building as a church and preschool, we are tenants and not religiously affiliated. The Nest has a separate exterior entrance and visitors are not required to enter a religious space. The Nest is private property and we are not authorized to admit anyone to other areas of the Binkley building.

Parents Night Out

Parents' Night Out at The Nest!

During PNO kids are invited to play and explore at The Nest while parents enjoy an evening out! 

This fun-filled night will include exhibit play & exploration, dinner from Alfredo's Pizza Villa, and a show to wind down at the end of the night.

This is a drop-off (childcare) program for children ages 3-9 (must be potty independent, see below). Kids will have a chance to exercise their minds, bodies, imagination, and independence.

Age Requirements: 3 to 9

  • The age policy is firm, no exceptions

TIME: 6:00pm-9:00pm

  • Drop-off begins at 6:00pm; early drop-off at 5:30pm can be added for $5.00 per child. (This fee applies to all participants, including members).
  • Pick-up ends at 9:00pm. A late fee of $15 may be applied for pick-ups after 9:05pm.

LOCATION: The Nest at 1712 Willow Drive, Chapel Hill NC 27514 

PLEASE BRING:

  • A water bottle labeled with your child's name
  • Children are welcome to wear pajamas & bring a pillow or blanket for the show.
  • The Nest exhibit area is no-shoes space for all visitors. Socks are recommended!

BATHROOM INDEPENDENCE POLICY:

  • Children must be potty independent to attend this program.
  • Being potty independent means a child is able to communicate the need to go to the bathroom and complete the entire process on their own. While staff supervise multiple group bathroom breaks during this program, they are not able to facilitate bathroom visits for children. Please see our policy for more information

BEFORE YOU REGISTER:

  • We reserve the right to cancel any program that does not meet the minimum enrollment requirement for registrants. In the event that a program is canceled, we will issue a full refund to any registered participants or transfer your registration to a later date. Mobile Museum Outreach 2025+

Junior Gardeners

Buzz on over to Kidzu’s Learning Garden on Tuesday & Thursday mornings! We will get our hands dirty as we play, explore and care for our garden and discover the plants and critters that live there. Children, caregivers and community members are invited to come help us maintain our beautiful new outdoor space during this program. All ages welcome.

 

Please note that Junior Gardeners will only be offered on Thursdays beginning on September 2nd.

 

Thanks to our generous community, Junior Gardeners is now FREE for both Kidzu members and non-members!

Open Maker Session

Open Maker Session Registration

The Makery @ Boxyard RTP is a maker space geared toward upper elementary aged children, tweens, teens, and adults.

Two Open Maker Sessions are available each day, Tuesday-Saturday, 11am-2pm & 3pm-7pm

New for Spring! Sunday session from 12pm-6pm

Join us any time within the session block for one of our two maker experiences:

Maker’s Choice

Come and bring your own materials to work on a project in our well-equipped maker space or create freely using the variety of materials, tools, and equipment we have to offer--including recycled materials, art supplies, tools, and making machines. You will also have access to our very experienced and talented Makery staff to ask questions or provide support if you want to try your hand at something new! 

Maker’s Project 

Purchase a prepared maker kit and work on the project in our maker space with access to additional materials or assistance from our trained Makery staff. You can expect to complete the project in one session and take it home with you! Kits are subject to availability, may change weekly, and price dependent.  

April Maker's Project: String art board. Make your own abstract string art piece! Use string, paint, clips, and more to create a beautiful piece.

Every individual requires a ticket; each "Maker's Project" ticket includes one kit. Children under the age of 12 months are free and do not need to register.
